Practice:
For the past decade, Flowers by Brett Matthew John | FBMJ has been a floral studio rooted in Melbourne's southeast, creating work that balances emotion with design.
My practice explores colour, texture, form, and mood - guided by instinct and inspired by fashion, art, pop culture, and nostalgia. The flowers often tell stories beyond themselves.
I’ve worked across weddings, installations, brand campaigns, and still life, always with an emphasis on detail, colour, and composition. Collaborations include CHANEL, Prada, Gucci, KENNEDY, and other creative teams on a diverse range of projects across Australia and New Zealand. In 2023, FBMJ was spotlighted by the National Gallery of Victoria as a leader in Australian floristry.
In 2025, bowquet by b m j™ made its debut - a decade-in-the-making conceptual project that reimagines the traditional bouquet through gesture and form. Each piece replaces flowers with handmade bows, exploring ideas of identity and ceremony in new contexts. Conceived as a companion to FBMJ, it expands the studio’s language beyond floristry - into the realms of fashion, art, and object.
If you’d like to work together, share a few details about your project - I welcome ideas and briefs that orbit the FBMJ aesthetic and approach.
