Practice:
For the past decade, Flowers by Brett Matthew John | FBMJ has bloomed across greater Melbourne, creating floral work that sits somewhere between floristry, art and cultural observation.
My practice is guided by colour, form and composition, drawing references from music, fashion and film, with a heavy watering of pop culture and the occasional hyper-fixation. Flowers are often the medium, but rarely the entire conversation.
FBMJ has produced work across weddings, editorial projects, brand campaigns, installations and still life. Clients and collaborators include CHANEL, Prada, Gucci and a range of creative teams throughout Australia and New Zealand. In 2023, the National Gallery of Victoria recognised FBMJ as a leader in Australian floristry.
Debuting in 2025, bowquet by b m j⢠expands the studio's language beyond floristry and into the realm of object. Replacing flowers with handmade bows, each piece reconsiders the traditional wedding bouquet through form and gesture.
If you'd like to work together, share a few details about your project. I welcome ideas and briefs that orbit the FBMJ aesthetic.
